Resort Intro
Gangehi Island Resort in the Maldives opened in 1987 and completed a full renovation in 2015. Nestled in the pristine Maldivian archipelago, the resort features lush vegetation and emphasizes guest privacy. It can be reached from Malé International Airport via a 25-minute seaplane flight. The island comprises 45 rooms—including 29 beach villas and 16 water villas—offering five room types, each accommodating up to four adults. One family garden villa is reserved for the owner and not available for sale.
The resort offers an on-site water sports center, spa, fitness center, and library, but lacks a children’s playground or public swimming pool. None of the guest rooms feature private pools either. With compact facilities, it caters well to travelers seeking an authentic natural experience. The primary guest demographic consists of international tourists, with relatively few Chinese visitors.
Snorkeling conditions are excellent: guests can dive directly into the sea from the beach or their water villas to encounter schools of fish, sea turtles, and even lemon sharks. The lagoon boasts scenic beauty with expansive trailing beaches. Certain areas, such as in front of Beach Villas 2 to 12, have breakwaters that create safe, shallow zones ideal for elderly guests and children. Water villa decks come equipped with two loungers and feature no railings, offering unobstructed ocean views—but parents should exercise caution regarding child safety.
Dining options include two restaurants and one bar. The main restaurant specializes in Italian cuisine, rated as average in flavor. Thari Restaurant, located at the island’s most scenic spot, provides a panoramic 270-degree ocean view and is highly recommended for evening meals. Guests can enjoy cocktails on the restaurant’s net beds during sunset hours.
Island Advantages ① Niche positioning—non-mainstream destination with limited Chinese tourists and a small total room count ② Exceptional snorkeling environment; the lagoon is perfect for swimming and natural exploration ③ Competitive pricing, starting at approximately 4,000 RMB per person
Island Disadvantages No public swimming pool; no private pools in any guest rooms
Ideal for budget-conscious travelers who don’t require high-end accommodations or dining standards but prioritize exceptional snorkeling experiences and immersive natural scenery.
